Oxidative Stress and Skin Cancer

This article talks about the real culprit of skin cancer…oxidative stress.  I was just telling someone today how different my skin is since I have used TruScience. I take my Protandim to lower my oxidative stress on the inside, but I use Tr Science on my face morning and night to lower my oxidative stress on my skin. There have been dermatologists who have taken before and after photos showing an increase in firmness and less wrinkles using TruScience and that is all great- but I use it for the HEALTH of my skin and my skin has never looked healthier…...even though my face is older than it has ever been!

Here is a link to the article- it is very interesting!

It has been a year!

It has been a year since I started taking Protandim and since I decided to become a part of the business. It has been a year of seeing great results with people taking control of their health with a natural product. The personal growth I have experienced this year by doing the  business has been incredible.

I was able to spend Saturday morning listening to one of my favorite leaders in the company. His name is Doc Marvin. He is a retired old country doctor that has a passion for helping people. Helping people with their health, but also with their basic needs. The reason he does the business is to donate as much as possible to an orphanage in Africa.

One of the key tidbits I left with on Saturday morning was about the # 3 cause of death in the US. He said that  #1 and #2 are heart disease and cancer. The third leading cause of the death in the US is complications from prescription drugs. All of the side effects mixed in with the number of drugs a person is on is creating cocktails that are slowly killing us- and these are drugs that doctors are telling us to go on, not drugs that are being abused.

Here is a link to his website. http://www.docmarvin.com if you would like to know about him.

Oxidative stress and Pediatric Migraines

Unfortunately I know a lot about migraines. I have suffered from migraines since I was a teenager and so far my oldest child has inherited the same problem. I have had years where the migraines are worse, I definitely know my triggers but sometimes they can just come out of the blue. My 17 year old daughter has been suffering with them since she was about 13. We finally have the correct " cocktail" she needs if one is coming on. Luckily, both of us can function normally if we have the correct medicine if one comes on.

Since I have been on Protandim, I have seen a decrease in the number I get. I am horrible at keeping good records of when I get a headache, but what I do keep a record of is how often I have to fill that $$$ medicine. About 3 months ago, I asked my oldest child to start taking Protandim as well. She is healthy 17 year old girl, so really the only thing we were hoping to see is a decrease in migraines. I am happy to say we have seen a significant decrease. We are both using our migraine medicine 50% less. That is saving me about 160.00 a month!!

Ultra Metabolism

I love the sound of that- " Ultra metabolism". Sounds like a fat burning machine! Basically that is the thinking behind Dr. Mark Hyman's New York Best Seller. He has some great, sound advice in his book about stress, our diet , how our sleep patterns all contribute to creating a slower metabolism as we age.

A lot of these things I have heard before relating to our metabolism, but he has a whole chapter dedicated to how oxidative stress hinders our metabolism's from working efficiently. Here is a quote from the book:

" Oxidation is commonly seen in the visible world as rusting of a car or a sliced apple turning brown. It is also responsible for the wrinkles on your face when you have been exposed to too much sunlight over the years. The problem is the rust not only exits in the visible or outside world. we actually rust on the inside. And this contributes to impaired metabolism, weight gain, and aging. Think of it as wrinkles on the inside".

He talks about other factors that contribute to an aging, slowing metabolism, so oxidative stress is not the only factor. I just find it interesting that science has come so far to see that it is not always as simple as just what we eat.

If you would like to order the book, I ordered it from here: Ultra-Metabolism

When it hits home

When I started taking Protandim last September, the first people I shared with was my family. My Dad is one of the people I told Protandim about, he listened to me and said he would take it for awhile to compare blood work over the course of a few months.  He is a skeptic, but tells me he is willing to be my guinea pig. Over the course of the last six months there a couple obvious changes that people around him can see. The most obvious one is his breathing. He smoked for 50 plus years and even since he has stopped smoking he breathes with a wheeze, he has COPD.( He is also on a number of inhalers, allergy medicines, but has always wheezed , even while taking those). He came with me to church on Easter Sunday and I noticed for the first time that I could not hear him wheezing when it was quiet in church. If you know my Dad, you know the wheeze I am talking about ! It is GONE. The second thing I noticed  was something my sister pointed out to me, his hands are shaking less when he is working on tasks that might involve a fine motor skill.

His  recent finding has to do with his cholesterol and blood pressure. One of the things that Protandim can do NATURALLY is lower your blood pressure. When it lowers your oxidative stress your bodies natural systems are able to work better on their own. So Protandim is not a supplement to cure high blood pressure or cholesterol or allergies, etc, but it will lower your oxidative stress so that your body's systems that are designed to naturally regulate those things can work more efficiently.

My Dad is starting to see that. His doctor took him off of one of his blood pressure medications and has halved his cholesterol pill. This is BIG in my Dad's world. He complains that every time he goes to the doctor they tell him to go on another drug. Taking away the drugs is the way to go!

Drugs are not the answer!

If you go to www.pubmed.gov, you will see more and more studies are being published on oxidative stress.  It is amazing to see how one variable in the aging process, can trigger so many things that our in our genetic makeup. The doctors are getting it, the scientists are getting it, the sad part is a drug is always so much in the equation for the solution from them. Here is an article I recently read that confirms that : Oxidative Stress can kill neurons by damaging cell protein

The science is great, the findings are interesting, their solution is not natural. All the more reason I am going to stick with my little yellow pill.

MS , new drug and Protandim

There is a drug that has been reported to significantly help people with MS. If someone would need this  drug, it would cost 50,000 a year to be on it. The drug is a Nrf2 activator. ( Exactly what Protandim is). Here is a link to the new broadcast about the drug along with a follow up of a study that was done with this drug ALONG with Protandim. What the study says is that the drug performs much better if it is taken with a " natural dietary supplement" called Protandim. The news will not tell you that- but the study does.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe0iaIoiYuM&feature=em-share_video_user

Sleep , it makes me happy!

For those of you who have known me for a long time, you know that I am not the kind of person that can function on little sleep. I have been this way since I was a kid.

My kids will tell you that since a young age if they were cranky, the answer was to get more sleep. If they were feeling sick, -get more sleep. If they were argumentative or disrespectful- hit the sack Jack!
( If you knew me when the kids were infants and toddlers, you are probably laughing right now because I was the nap nazi too!)

The first thing I noticed about 6 weeks on Protandim was how much deeper I was sleeping. Although sleep has always been my go to solution, I have always been a light sleeper. Add age, and 4 kids in the mix and I have turned into a super light sleeper. Mike jokes ( but is really serious) about the slightest movement he can make and I will jump out of bed. Since I have been on Protandim it has been different. I know that Protandim is lowering my oxidative stress-  this study suggests that oxidative stress can effect our circadian rhythm. (circadian rhythm is often referred to as our body clock). If our  "clock" is working better, studies have shown that our health, our sleep and other systems will be working better.  Here is the link to the study. Now when I tell my kids they just need some sleep and they say " Mom, you always say that", I can show them a study that proves that its not just their mama!http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23198849

Mike Cellino's physical

Mike received a GREAT report from his doctor last week. - Let me start out by saying that the only thing that Mike has done differently in his regular routine is Protandim. He has been on it now for 5 months. Since his last doctor's checkup ( 3 yrs ago). He has not changed his diet, which is not bad, but he also has not added in exercise like he should. ( He is not proud of that either!)

Although his goal is to incorporate regular exercise into his regimen, he is very ENCOURAGED by the difference in his blood work since three years ago. The Protandim is working, that is all I can say. Some of us might have great side effects of more energy and better sleep, but whether you experience that or not, it is lowering our oxidative stress which has an impact on so many of our bodies systems.

All of his blood work either improved or stayed the same. Nothing stayed the same that needed to improve.

                                                                               2010                     2013

Cholesterol                                                              215                       181

AST           ( this is a liver test)                                 43                         31 ( healthy range is 10-40)

ALT            ( this is a liver test)                               66                          44  ( healthy range is 9-60)

The rest of the numbers were in healthy ranges in 2010, and either stayed the same or had improved slightly. The ones I mentioned above were the numbers that were in BOLD black type with an  "H"
next to them- meaning they were higher than they should be. All of the tests that had the " H" next to them are now in healthy ranges. So what is next? Lets see what some exercise will do now! LOL.

Study from Germany

I will be honest, when I first learned that Protandim was an Nrf2 activator, all my mind went too was Nerf guns! I had to listen to explanations and read about what Nrf2 was and does over and over again to begin to comprehend it. Here is a link to a study done in Germany that has found that Nrf2 is a " key neuroprotective molecule in neurodegenerative diseases." German study on Nrf2/ARE Signaling Pathway

Oxidative stress, sleep deprivation and cancer?

Although we can not " feel" our oxidative stress levels, I definitely know what it feels like when I am sleep deprived. The years of having babies in the house..I can remember craving a 4 or 5 hr stretch of sleep in the middle of night. Now that I sleep great, I never want to go back. Here is a link to a study that suggesta a good night sleep is of one of the best things you can do for your health.http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11325-012-0797-9

Where does oxidative stress hit home?

The more I read about oxidative stress, the more I realize what a common thread it is into so many diseases we fight today. I came across this website that touches on health issues where oxidative stress  plays a role. I thought I would pass the info on!

CANINE HEALTH

LifeVantage Canine Health is a daily supplement specifically formulated for dogs. Building on the same active ingredients as Protandim®, we created a unique formulation that uses Nrf2-activating ingredients, collagen and omega-3 fatty acids to:

Reduce oxidative stress
Support brain, heart and eye functions
Support normal joint function, mobility and flexibility
Support cognitive function

Reducing oxidative stress in dogs may reduce many of the disorders associated with aging in canines – all common problems that profoundly affect their quality of life. These symptoms include disorientation, decreased social interaction, loss of prior house-training, sleep disturbance and decreased mobility.

The combined active ingredients in LifeVantage Canine Health may provide dogs with the opportunity to be more active and involved in everyday life and family activities.

A First for Dogs
The first canine supplement to combat oxidative stress through Nrf2 activation, Canine Health is the result of our collaboration with world-renowned pet product formulator William Barnett, DVM. Together we created a product specifically formulated and properly dosed for canine consumption -- a delicate balance that uses the same active ingredients as Protandim but also includes omega-3 fatty acids and collagen, making it like no other canine supplement on the market.

Canine Health’s unique formulation uses marine sources for omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and is an excellent source of DHA, which is virtually absent from canine diets.

Dog-Friendly Taste & Ease for Owners
Canine Health comes in a chewable tablet that combines the dog-friendly tastes of bacon, chicken and liver, so it’s more palatable and easier to give to dogs. This all-in-one supplement eliminates the need to purchase collagen and omega-3 fatty acids supplements separately.

LifeVantage Canine Health could help preserve your relationship with the dog or dogs you love.

Cleansing Response by Dr. Marvin

I have been frequently asked " do you feel any different" after taking Protandim. The best way I can describe my experience is that I feel like a younger version of me. Dr. Marvin goes into a little more specifics about how you may feel in the beginning and the longer you are on it. I wanted to share this because I thought he explained it excellently :

The Cleansing Response
Physiological Reactions to Protandim
by Norman G. Marvin, M.D.

Free Radicals
As you begin to take Protandim positive changes begin to happen within your body. Most of these
you won’t be able to see or feel, but we know that they happen. For instance, your level of Oxidative
Stress will revert to that of a 20 year old or younger in 30 days.

Some people will also experience a Cleansing Response. As you rid your body of Free Radicals, you
may experience a general malaise, nausea, or headaches. But rest assured this is not an allergy or a
permanent problem. An adjustment should be made in the amount you take for a couple of weeks.
Call your upline or myself to learn how to adjust the amount of Protandim the person is taking.

THE IDEAL REACTION
The Ideal reaction is the gradual development of an increased sense of well-being. At first you will
notice that you do not tire so easily. You will have more sustained energy during the day, and you
will not become tired so early in the evening, and you will sleep much better. Next, you may find
you are more alert in the mornings. As your sense of well-being increases, you may begin to feel
more emotionally and psychologically secure. Little things do not bother you as they once did. Your
old patterns will begin to change from “grumpy” ones to “happy” ones.

CORRECTING REACTIONS
However, in a significant minority, a number of uncomfortable reactions may occur as you begin to
cleanse your body of Free Radicals. It is not easy for your body to adjust overnight to a long history
of Oxidative Stress.

If you have a history of Chemotherapy and/or radiation along with many different prescriptions, you
may experience some of the following: fever, rash or hives, excessive gas, headaches, increased
thirst, weakness, lethargy, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, nervousness,
and various body aches and pains in joints and muscles. When these reactions occur, you can be
assured your body is making positive changes toward an improved state of health.

If you recognize these as a correcting response, it will be easier to accept them as steps on the road
to better health. These conditions are a small price to pay for long- lasting benefits.

CONTACT THE PERSON WHO PUT YOU ON PROTANDIM TO ADJUST THE AMOUNT OF PROTANDIM
YOU ARE TAKING!

THINGS TO DO TO HELP YOUR BODY RID ITSELF OF FREE RADICALS

• Drink 8 8oz glasses of water daily. Also consider a combination of natural fresh fruit and
vegetable juices. This will help flush out the toxins and contribute to the natural cleansing of
the kidneys.
• Increase your intake of fruits, vegetables, and bran from the cereals. This can help accelerate
the removal of toxins from the body.
• Include an activity component in your daily routine. Walking for 15 minutes is a good place to
start. Exercise, in general, is a great way to support detoxification.
• If the reaction is too strong for you to tolerate, you can reduce the amount of Protandim for a
couple of weeks, and then go back to one pill daily. This routine may need to be repeated,
depending on the amount of repair needed at the cellular level.

CrossFit Journey

I have been following this blog to see what Guy's results would be. He was a guinea pig in 3 month experiment with Protandim. He has posted his results, with his blood work and just in general about how he feels now. He is an all natural kind of guy-  he is not into artificial supplements or products. His findings are very encouraging and just confirm what we know!
